Globalization Project-
Project Description:
During this project us students went deep into depth about what the word “globalization” means and how it greatly affects our world. During the course of our projects we took a look and some some of the issues that globalization has caused. Such as, GMO’s, sweatshops, and the World Trade Organization. We then finished off the project by writing our own opinion editorials on an issue among the topic of globalization that was important to us, and taking a side and going to research about it. In addition, we finished off the project by making our own political cartoons that were related to our writing pieces in order to convey our standpoint using humor and art.
Takeaways:
After spending a worthwhile amount of time on this project I learned a valuable set of understanding that I would not have learned if not for this project. I learned that globalization is something to be taken seriously in our world and that it is something happening all around us without notice, and if affects our world more than we know changing our everyday lives; for good and bad. I think that I have am now much more aware of the forms that globalization takes and how it works its’ way into my own personal life and how it can change who I am and the reality I live in. Without this project I would have never had a full understanding of what it means to live in a globalized world.
The writing:
The writing part of this project took a great deal of time, in total I have gone through three drafts or work with the critique of my teacher and my peers to perfect my writing. I have learned that from writing what I did that it takes a great deal of attention to detail to get the point across and a careful writing process to make an impact on the reader. Aside from that I acquired a new style of writing all together. An opinion editorial is not written like most traditional essays, it takes a whole different form. It is broken up into smaller paragraphs with more information in less complex chunks of writing. Also, this type of writing has a more laid back tone showing the voice and raw opinion of the reader. With this, during my writing process I have learned very valuable skills.
The Art:
To me, the most entertaining part of this project I think that the art side of this was helpful for me because I learned how to show my ideas and opinion in an art piece of my own creation. I personally learned how to form my thoughts into something that everyone can understand and I enjoyed the freedom to portray my ideas the way I wanted. I think it is also good to be able to interpret something such as art to form your own opinion on whatever the topic may be, and use a little humor to make it more fun to look at as well. This to me is a skill that I can easily carry on to other things in the future.
